Head of Logistics

Chelsea Lighting is seeking a highly qualified and dedicated Head of Logistics to lead the charge executing tactical activities of operational logistics in current service areas of the company, and to shape strategic/tailored/custom/flexible and scalable plans for target areas of growth.  Drawing on a strong background in logistics/distribution/supply chain, the Head of Logistics is a results-oriented problem-solver with a strong desire to create a positive workplace culture and maximize efficiency and continuous improvement.  This position provides you with the unique opportunity to join our team of expert lighting and controls professionals and drive Chelsea’s logistics service to the apex of professionalism.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors’ Degree required from an accredited university
  • Minimum three (3) years of management experience with a record of success in comprehensive logistics, supply chain, planning, warehousing, and distribution
  • Considered an expert in the knowledge of logistics-related Material Management and Material Handling
  • Analytical mindset with an enthusiasm for problem-solving and a exhibits strong can-do attitude
  • Highly organized and dedicated person who can monitor several projects simultaneously and who can prioritize their workload and the workloads of the warehouse and transportation vendor
  • Is passionate about leading and developing a team with direct report responsibility
  • The ideal candidate must have strong time management, problem solving, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and utilize these skills in a demanding, multi-tasking environment
  • Advanced working knowledge of 3PL arrangements and WMS systems
  • Proficient in software programs - MS Office Suite (Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Outlook).
  • Proactive and concise written and oral communications skills
  • Advanced knowledge of the five boroughs, with an emphasis on Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens

Job Responsibilities:

New York City Metropolitan Area

  • The logistics manager will manage the storage, inventory, and movement of lighting fixtures and controls to/from our clients’ job sites currently located in the greater NYC metropolitan area.
    • The Delivery and Pickup dynamic has five to/from main areas:
      1. Manufacturer - Job Site
      2. Manufacturer - Warehouse
      3. Warehouse - Job Site
      4. Chelsea Lighting’s office - Warehouse
      5. Chelsea Lighting’s office - Job Site (use of express/messenger service)
  • Based in our midtown NYC office, key interfaces the logistics manager must ensure early engagement with are:  The Chelsea Lighting Project Management, Purchasing, and Finance teams, a third-party warehouse and transportation vendor, and various express/messenger delivery services.
  • Provide hi-touch management, development, and support of Chelsea Lighting logistics team members.
  • Be the Point-of-Contact for day-to-day logistical aspects and issues for employees, clients and vendors
  • Maintain, at all times, an up-to-date record of current and anticipated inventory
  • Manage and be responsible for meeting or exceeding company metrics for Logistics Quality including:  Accurate and timely Warehouse notification of Inventory received; Photographs of Damaged Materials received; Current Inventory; Proper labeling of palletized inventory; Rejected Delivery Notification; Verification of Delivery; Verification of Returned Goods Authorization/Incorrect shipment pickups; Pickups from Local Manufacturers; and Express shipment justification
  • Responsible for all transportation and warehousing cost relationships to COGS for each job and cumulative company, and report such to Senior Management.
    • Review and reconcile all bills/invoices received from vendors to ensure proper charges; determine more cost-effective means for warehousing, storage and transportation of product.
  • Ensure proper delivery and solid Proof of Delivery (POD) information; develop and implement new solutions and technology to better capture and reconcile POD information.
  • Provide data and recommendations on tracking, costing and usage alternatives.
  • Develop and maintain working knowledge of contracts, deadlines, and expectations

Chelsea currently has offices in Chicago, IL, and Fort Lauderdale, FL.  As these offices grow, there is an increasing need for a well-established logistics function.  Additionally, Chelsea’s success is predicated on growth, whether organically or through M&A.  We find that each service area has unique nuances in which to operate and therein provides the logistics manager with an incredible opportunity to build a platform to meet or exceed client full-service logistical needs.  In addition to the duties and responsibilities mentioned above, these can include:

  • Warehouse - identifying an effective facility/warehouse – vendor partner or buy/lease and build.
  • Transportation - determining appropriate transportation methods – trucking, messengers, union/non-union, etc., - contract 3PL or build a Chelsea system
  • Assess and decide on LTL and/or FTL Broker Relationships
  • Gain a thorough understanding of needs and expectations for the local client base, local manufacturers, local vendors, and local operating/delivery territories.
  • Develop and maintain working knowledge of the nuances related to business contracts in target areas of growth.

Execute ad-hoc duties as assigned by Senior Management.
